Incase you were wondering, my name is Katie. I am currently a high school student who aspires to be an author one day. I've always had a knack for writing. Ever since the 5th grade, I've been overloading my computer's hard drive with fan-fiction novels and a plethora of incomplete stories. Because of this, the letters on my netbook's keyboard have been worn off, and some of my keys don't work anymore. TIP: If you write a lot, I suggest you don't purchase an Acer Aspire One netbook. Or any netbook at all.
My point in creating this blog is to document my journey in writing my first ORIGINAL novel. I have composed multiple full-length fan-ficiton novels before, but creating a story with my own characters seems so intimidating to me. There's so much work that goes into creating your own characters. You have to decide what their personalities are like, if they have any habits, what their good qualities are, what their bad qualities are, their physical traits, how they interact with their peers--I could go on forever. However, I have finally decided to channel my inner Dauntless--if you're a fan of Veronica Roth's brilliant book, Divergent, you will understand this-- and write my own novel.
I really want to create a book about a dystopian society. In case you don't know what a dystopian society is, it is a place where everything is unpleasant. Before you label me as sadistic, and tell me I'm crazy for wanting to write about such a depressing place, keep in mind that The Hunger Games featured a dystopian society. So did Divergent. I really liked how both of those novels featured strong female characters that were able to escape from their terrible societies.
I'm not sure what I want to do with my story, though. I really admire the competition aspect of The Hunger Games and Divergent, but I don't know what type of competition I want to include in my story. I know I want my main character to fall in love with someone, but since I don't know what my story is about exactly, I don't know how my characters will meet, or what the dynamics of their relationship will be. So, to sum it all up here is what I have so far:
-Dystopian society
-Female main character
-Romance (but not too much romance)
-Competition
